Fujihata expresses a Japanese view of nature and explores
technology as a mirror of self reflection.

Fujihata Notes from Keynote Speech
I would
like to start from a simple diagram about man and nature.
1)
Circle shows Inside and Outside, also shows domain.
2) A dot in the center of circle, a living thing, a human.
3) Human moved around for searching a safe place for bad weather.
4) Picked up branches, cut trees for making house. Starting point
of art.
5) Wild nature turned into tamed nature. Land was cultivated by
human's creativity.
6) Humans shared energy from sun with plants, animals, insects,
and so on.
7) Finally whole earth was cultivated with the invention of technology
and science.
8) Human can live anywhere now with High technology. Outer space
is also a target now.
9) Ecological issue rose in between tamed nature and artificial
nature.
From
the view of art and science
1)
Human do draw a line on the ground, but dogs are not.
2) Art is a function to make a copy of nature as an act of respection.
Mimesis.
3) Science starts with curiosity who wants to know.
4) For understanding nature, they made tools for analization, such
as telescope, microscope.
5) It is an invention that making models of nature by mathematics
or visuals.
6) Problem about models is which is not including humans. An objective
view.
Consciousness
How can we include ourselves into the model of nature?
How can we beyond artificial nature?
1)
Consciousness rises by the interaction to the environment. By which
tools?
2) Friends and family is the first encountered environment. Community.
3) Communication is important for each other. Exchanging environment.
4) Mass media grew communication problems between humans.
5) Our consciousness can be controlled by mass media.
New
media for normal communication and consciousness of wholeness.
It should have functions of self-reflectiveness and objectivity.
Media:
Fundamental functions of media
1)
Memory device. recording, storing. ex. Paper and pencil.
2) Distribution media. Book, record, CD, video. transmission, multiple
copy.
3) Retrieving device. Reading book.
4) Externalise oneself. Writing and reading in a same time = expressing
one's inside.
Mirroring oneself. Media can give you an externality.
Project:
1)
Light on the Net. Meta-Monument. Monument in the Internet. Sharing
experience by click images.
2) Field-Works@Hayama. Archived personal activity rendering for
reversing it to view objectivity.
3) Field-Works@Lake_Shinji. Collective memory.
